IGN reviews Hellgate: London

We have seen a lot of reviews in the last few days, but not yet from one of the “biggest” websites, IGN. And there it is. The reviewers were happy with the items and the leveling, but not with the scenario, inventory and random levels.

Presentation
A credible attempt to recast Diablo for the next generation but some of the new ideas just don’t work.

Graphics
Full of moody atmosphere and inventive monster designs. Animation leaves a bit to be desired.

Sound
Voice work and effects just do enough to get by. A few actors help to rescue the rest of the cast.

Gameplay
The drive to get new items is about the only reward worth pursuing here. Monsters are more exciting than the players.

Lasting Appeal
It’s fun for a week or so, but the lack of variety in the combat and the haphazard level design starts to get old fast.

Overall : 6.8 Passable

Ouch. I do hope all these reviews get updated in a few weeks/months, when the additional content and bug fixes are live.
